About the Route
Starting from the historic town of Straupe, this mid-Brasla route takes paddlers through a lively stretch of the river as it flows through forest toward the A3 highway bridge. The Brasla here has a swift current with several small rapids that provide excitement without real technical challenge. Mixed forest lines both banks throughout, with occasional open sections giving glimpses of the wider valley. A good route for paddlers with a little experience who want more action than a flat-water paddle. The town of Straupe at the start is home to a historic castle worth a look before launching.
