About the Route
A short, scenic one-day route on the Salaca with a dramatic natural highlight at its end: the Sarkanās Klintis, or Red Cliffs — ancient red sandstone formations rising directly from the riverbank and one of the most striking geological sites in Latvia. The paddle from Staicele follows a calm, forest-lined stretch of the Salaca, with the river's amber-clear water and sandy banks making even the approach enjoyable. The cliffs at the end are a protected nature monument, millions of years in the making. A great option for those who want a manageable day trip with a genuinely memorable destination.
