About the Route
A scenic short route starting right in Sigulda, where the Gauja flows through its most dramatic lower gorge. High forested bluffs, sandstone outcrops and clear water make this one of the prettiest easy stretches on the entire river. The current is gentle throughout, suitable for beginners and families. Starting from Sigulda means you can combine the paddle with a visit to Turaida Castle, the cable car over the gorge or Sigulda's bobsled track before or after hitting the water. A great half-day option for those already spending time in Sigulda who want to experience the Gauja from the water.
