About the Route
One of Latvia's top multi-day river journeys, covering the full breadth of Gauja National Park over three days. Starting in Valmiera, the upper river is wide and calm as it flows through open valleys and riverside meadows. By day two the scenery shifts as the national park closes in around you, with forested hills rising on both sides. The final day brings the most dramatic landscapes: towering sandstone cliffs, hidden caves and dense pine forest as you approach Līgatne. Each night is spent camping on the riverbank under the stars. Both Valmiera and Līgatne are charming historic towns worth exploring at either end of the trip.
